Delighted to have seen the first Glasgow Tattoo at the Hydro. Some said it wouldn’t be as good as the open air one outside of Edinburgh Castle. but hey, some of us like a seat, access to refreshments and toilets to hand.
I am not a great fan of bagpipes (shame on me but at least I am honest.) But who doesn’t like a man in a kilt right? I was surprised by the variety of performers including Irish dance troupe, Highland dance troupe and various bands from all over including Ireland. It was indeed a member of one of the Irish bands that treated us to some fine renditions of Scottish favourites from the Proclaimers 500 miles to the classic Auld Lange Syne. What a terrific voice David Robertson has.
Two bands that really stood out for me were: Fascinating Drums (Germany) whose nimble fingered performance had the audience mesmerised especially when the venue went dark and the drumsticks glowed. Fantastic routine.
The Amigo Leiden Band (Holland) were smartly dressed and treated us to more contemporary music complimented with their snazzy “marching” routines. They went all out to use props and lights and to enhance their brilliant performance. And it worked!
Go next year! Brilliant night out!
