Tomorrow I am going to my first Scottish Association of Writers(SAW) meeting in my role as Affiliation and Outreach Secretary with the club reps. Really looking forward to meeting the reps, some of whom I only know via e mail. The purpose of the meeting is to evaluate SAW Conference 46 which was held in March this year.
The annual conference is always a highlight of the year. Writing groups affiliated to SAW have the opportunity to enter writing competitions, have their writing critiqued, hear from key speakers and if fortunate enough to have work placed in one of the many competitions, they may have time to read/perform the winning piece.
The Conference also has a social element which this year included a Quiz, Raffle and Talent Contest. It is a great opportunity to network, meet old friends and new. The atmosphere is fairly informal and whilst there are various workshops available no-one is pushed to participate so delegates can use the leisure facilities, take a nap, catch up with their writing or simply chat to other delegates.
